MS Volendam
Name:
Vanessa Curtain
Overview:
I have now had the pleasure of cruising on three Holland America Line ships (ms Volendam, ms Ryndam and ms Veendam). The best thing about this line is the attention to detail. I love the flexibility of these smaller ships to access remote ports, I loved New Zealand and Volendam took us right up close to the glacial waterfall in Milford Sound. I went to Alaska on Ryndam and love the little port of Haines and the Hubbard glacier. I took Veendam to Mexico and we visited some lesser-known ports there, such as Topolobompo and Los Mochis. There were informative lectures regarding the ports being visited, which was very useful. One of the enchanting little touches on board is there are a lot of fresh flowers everywhere, and the room service breakfast is really good, with very attentive cabin stewards. I will most definitely be cruising with HAL in the future – I would love to do the Panama Canal one day, or revisit Alaska with her new port of call at Kodiac Island. The itineraries are wonderful and inspiring.

Décor:
Elegant, comfortable, fresh, feels like home.
Service:
Attention to detail is fantastic.
Destination:
Best thing about HAL is their itineraries and the ports they choose to visit as part of their tour program.
Entertainment:
Some good acts are hired on board, in particular the music and singing.

Good choice of food options, quality is more important to me than quantity. The addition of the Italian restaurant on Veendam was a nice touch as too was the pizza by the outdoor theatre to watch movies.
