BLOG#4 Uniworld River Cruise. (Day 1 on Ship)
With a tinge of regret we said goodbye to our outstanding InterContinental Hotel and the hotel porter put our bags into a taxi (a real one this time) for our two minute ride across the Chain Bridge to our home for the next seven days, the River Beatrice. As soon as the taxi pulled up at the dock, three of the crew raced towards us, helping us out of the cab and taking care of our luggage. What a great start!
We checked in at the ship’s front desk and were escorted to our stateroom, boy were we impressed. It was a small suite, which is actually almost identical to the other standard staterooms, except there was some extra length which made the stateroom very spacious and more than most large liners. There were also a couple of extras, such as our own espresso machine. At the end of the hallway was a tea, coffee and hot chocolate self-serve station. Our stateroom had large floor to ceiling sliding doors that opened onto a French balcony.
The bathroom was very well designed and contained the largest shower recess I have yet encountered on any ship. The toiletries were of the highest quality.
We felt very much at home and looked forward to our cruise on this sensational vessel.
That night before a sensational dinner which is served with free wine, beer and soft drinks, we all met in the ship’s
comfortable lounge to listen to an introductory talk from our Cruise Director as well as a safety talk from the Captain and meet the crew.
Our fellow passengers were a delightful mix of English speaking nationalities. Mainly American, Canadian, Australian and South Africans. It was so good that everyone spoke English, including the crew. On some vessels, English is the second language and it is really important to ascertain this before going on any cruise.
PHOTOS by J.Pond: Staterooms exceeded our expectations, larger than their equivalent on cruise ships. 6 star hotel standard with the best bed and linens.
Keep viewing for our day to day on board comments.
